Ukraine
With war ravaging Ukraine for the past two years, the Belgian government tasked Enabel in December 2023 to launch a reconstruction programme in the country.
With a budget of 150 million euros over four years, our efforts will primarily focus on the Chernihiv region (north-east of the capital) and Kyiv.
Strengthening Health and Social Protection
With a long-standing expertise in health, Enabel and its partners’ will support access to healthcare services.
Activities will also focus on the traumatic impact of the war on mental health and provide increased support to the most vulnerable groups (children, veterans, refugees, internally displaced persons).
Supporting Education and Access to Employment
Access to quality education is an essential prerequisite for obtaining decent employment. With our partners, we will collaborate with national authorities and civil society to offer training and support programmes tailored to the local context.
Thus, we aim to contribute to the revival of local economic development and stimulate access to employment.
Building Back Better
In both the health and education sectors, a significant portion of the funding will be allocated to rehabilitating infrastructures damaged by the war.
While rebuilding, we aspire to integrate energy efficiency and promote long-term resilience.
The Future of Ukraine is European
Finally, we aspire to support Ukraine’s accession to the EU and to build relationships between Belgian and Ukrainian institutions.
This will support Ukraine’s EU transition and create long-term linkages between Belgium and Ukraine.
