Equitable access to water in times of climate change

visual with text saying "position paper"

Globally, 785 million people lack access to safe water sources. Given the over-exploitation of water resources against the backdrop of climate change, ensuring equitable access to water is therefore a critical challenge for human development and ecosystem stability.

Enabel supports sustainable water governance, strengthens the collection and analysis of water and environmental data, and promotes the deployment of technical and societal innovations, with the support of the private sector.

Drawing on its experience in several partner countries (Morocco, Burundi, Senegal, Mozambique, Tanzania…), the agency adopts a transversal, multi-sector approach that goes beyond water and sanitation infrastructure alone. It fosters water governance that respects both societies and ecosystems.

Through this position paper, Enabel shares a series of strategic, operational, and technical recommendations to tackle this global challenge.
