Fair trade week

Fair Trade Week is an annual campaign highlighting fair trade and fair trade products.

For 10 days, activities are organised all over Belgium that introduce you to fair trade and fair products in a fun way.

Why fair trade week?

Fair trade is a sector that is constantly evolving. During Fair Trade Week, you can discover the diverse range of fair trade products on offer. That way, we want to motivate people to choose fair trade, because with every fair trade purchase you give a small producer a chance for a better life. As a consumer, you have the power to improve living conditions.

How does fair trade work?

One of the main principles of fair trade is that producers get a fair price for their product.

But it goes beyond that. Fair trade guarantees a set of good trading conditions (such as long-term agreements with buyers), respects workers’ rights and the environment, provides better market access and strengthens producer organisations and their networks.

Fair trade gives disadvantaged producers, mainly from the Global South, a chance to build a decent living for themselves and their families.

Fair Trade Week is an initiative of Enabel’s Trade for Development Centre, in cooperation with the main fair trade associations in Belgium.
